Essential Heavy Haul Compliance Rules

  • The FMCSA 50% Rule: According to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, the aggregate working load limit (WLL) of all your tie-down assemblies combined must equal at least 50% of the total weight of the cargo being transported.
  • Tie-Down Minimums: Articles up to 5 feet in length and under 1,100 lbs require a minimum of one tie-down. Articles exceeding 10 feet in length, or heavy machinery regardless of size, require multiple certified tie-downs anchored across targeted structural points.
  • Mechanical Advantage: Always choose high-tensile ratchet binders over traditional lever binders for heavier payloads to minimize operator fatigue and prevent snap-back risks during high-vibration over-the-road transit.
